1) The key task of the military is to uphold state sovereignty, defend the territorial integrity of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia based on Pancasila and the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia Year 1945, as well as to protect the people and the country of Indonesia from threats and harassment against the integrity of the nation and the state.

(2) The principal tasks referred to in paragraph (1) is done by:

a. military operations for war;
b. military operations other than war, namely to:

Overcoming the armed separatist movement;

2. Overcoming terrorism.
3. Securing the border region.
4. Securing national vital objects which are strategic.
5. Performing the task of world peace in accordance with the foreign policy.
6. Securing the President and Vice President and their families.

8. Assisting the government in the region.
9. Assist the Indonesian National Police in tasks of security and public order set out in the legislation.
10. Help secure a state-level heads of state and representatives of foreign governments who were in Indonesia.
